Date                                        :20-05-2023

Duration                                  :4 hours

Workshop topic                      :Advanced Embedded firmware and IoT Number of Participants                              41

The global program for 6th-semester students was an immersive and enriching initiative aimed at providing hands-on expertise in the integration of sensors with the ESP32 microcontroller. Commencing with a detailed exploration of the ESP32’s capabilities and communication protocols, the workshop seamlessly progressed to practical sessions where students connected an array of sensors, including temperature and motion sensors, to the ESP32. Subsequently, participants were introduced to the intricacies of Google Firebase, learning how to set up an account and configure a real-time database. The ESP32 was then employed to transmit sensor data efficiently to the Firebase cloud platform. In the second phase of the program, students dived into mobile app development using the Kodular platform. Here, they designed user-friendly interfaces, integrated Firebase for real-time data retrieval, and implemented features for effective data visualization and analysis. The comprehensive nature of the program enabled students to acquire technical proficiency in ESP32 and sensor integration, cloud integration skills with Google Firebase, and adeptness in mobile app development using Kodular.

Throughout the workshop, students were challenged to tackle issues related to sensor calibration, data transmission reliability, and the design intricacies of the app interface. These challenges served as invaluable learning opportunities, fostering problem-solving skills and encouraging a deeper understanding of the technologies at play. To conclude the program, each student or group was assigned a project, offering them the chance to implement the integrated system in real-world scenarios. This practical application allowed students to demonstrate their newfound skills and creativity. Looking ahead, recommendations for future iterations include the exploration of additional sensors, delving into advanced ESP32 features, and the integration of machine learning algorithms for data analysis within the Kodular app. The program’s success in equipping students with practical skills in ESP32 and sensor integration, Google Firebase cloud usage, and Kodular app development positions them well for the dynamic challenges of the evolving Internet of Things (IoT) landscape. Overall, the workshop stands as a testament to the effectiveness of immersive, hands-on learning experiences in preparing students for the complexities of modern technology.
